| Sprint Bandits TNT – Bringing “Tradition” Back to Florida |
Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 26, 2006) – “Traditional”
Sprint Cars and the Sunshine State. It’s a combo that hasn’t
been coupled in a quarter of a century. In fact, not since the
legendary Doug Wolfgang topped the wingless portion of East Bay
Raceway Park’s Fifth Annual Winter Nationals in February of 1981
have the most powerful topless Sprint Cars slung dirt clods in
Florida.
That’s all about to change though, as the O’Reilly Sprint
Bandits Tour ‘N Topless series brings the potent, non-wing
410-ci Sprint Cars back to Florida dirt track racing for the
second leg of the Fast Lane Apparel Triple Crown Challenge at
East Bay Raceway Park’s 30th Annual Winter Nationals next Monday
through Wednesday, January 30 through February 1.
The Wednesday night, February 1, feature event is a lucrative
one as well, offering up $10,000 to the winner.
More than 40 of the nation’s top wingless Sprint Car drivers are
expected to converge upon Tampa’s 1/3-mile, semi-banked dirt
oval to battle for East Bay Raceway Park Winter Nationals
victory honors.
Among those pre-entered are hotshoes such as Cory Kruseman, Jon
Stanbrough, Charles Davis, Jr., Mat Neely, Kevin Briscoe and
2005 National Rookie of the Year Brady Short. Shedding their
wings to take a shot as well include winged aces Terry McCarl,
Jason Sides, Danny Smith and Tony Bruce, Jr.
Also expressing intent to compete are drivers such as Bud
Kaeding (the new driver for defending Sprint Bandits TNT
champion car owner Scott Benic), Dave Darland, Dickie Gaines and
Bryan Clauson among others, virtually assuring a talent-laden
field to vie for the $10,000 winner’s share.
The opening leg of the Fast Lane Apparel Triple Crown Challenge
kicks off tonight (Wednesday, January 26) with the “King of the
360’s”, featuring approximately 75 entries for the O’Reilly ASCS
National Tour. The final leg consists of the winged 410-ci
Sprinters on February 2-4. Any driver that can top the final
night of two of the three legs can capture a $5,000 bonus, with
another $50,000 up for grabs if that driver can top all three
portions.
Topping all three portions of the Triple Crown Challenge would
net a driver a minimum of at least $80,000, not including
preliminary night winnings.
East Bay Raceway Park is located off I-75 Exit 250, then two
miles west, then 1.2 miles north on US 41, then right 1.3 miles
on Old US 41, then right on Burts Rd. For more information,
