Jack Nosbisch, Jr. Gets The Job Done At East Bay Raceway Park Winning Late Model Feature

May 31, 2014, – Tampa, FL – Mother Nature looked to be a spoiler tonight as clouds were all around the Raceway and it even showered across the street but not putting a drop on the track. East Bay Sprints, V8 Warriors, Late Models and the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks were all in action.

First feature of the night belonged to East Bay Sprints defending Champion Billy Boyd, Jr. and Tim George would start the front row for the 20 lap feature event. When the green waved Boyd quickly took the lead over George and the rest of the field. The first caution would come out with just a few laps into the race as Kerry Gilbert slowed and came to rest in turn 2. Gilbert was able to continue but stopped again in turn four ending his night. Boyd would lead the field to the green until lap six when David Kelley brought out the caution. Green waved once again on lap six until Johnny Alexander’s wing came loose and he stopped in turn two ending his night. The race resumed on lap seven as Boyd was still leading with Tony Agin now up to second with George falling back to third. Boyd was making his way through lapped traffic as Tony Agin appeared to be catching him. When the checkered waved Boyd picked up his first win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Tony Agin, Johnny Gilbertson, Tim George, and Kurt Taylor. Boyd and George both won their heats early in the evening.

V8 Warriors were next with Mike Wilson and Raymond Vann starting on the front row for their 15 lap feature event. When the green waved Vann quickly took the lead as Wilson and Jeremey Simpson were trying to chase him down until lap six when points leader Jimmy Baker spun in turn four. On the restart Wilson and Simpson were still trying to reel in the leader Vann. As Wilson entered turn four he spun battling with Simpson for second and would have to fall to the rear on the restart. On the final restart on lap seven Simpson was now trying to chase down Vann with Derek Gray but Gray would fall short as he turned into the infield ending his night as Schneider moved up to third. The checkered waved with Vann winning his second feature of the season. Rounding out the top five were Jeremey Simpson, Nicholas Schneider, Mike Wilson and Jason Manning. Derek Gray and Raymond Vann won their heats earlier on.

Next up were the Late Models. Adam Boyd and defending Champion Dave Schmauss would make up the front row for the 25 lap feature event. Schmauss would lead the first three laps as several cautions would come out. On the restart on lap three Schmauss led the field to the green with Jack Nosbisch, Jr. and Mavrick Varnadore trying to reel in Schmauss. Nosbisch, Jr. was able to and took over the lead on lap six with Schmauss falling to second with Varnadore in tow. Caution didn’t come out until lap sixteen as Megan Meyer slowed and pulled off the track ending her night. Race resumed on lap sixteen as Nosbisch, Jr. was leading over Schmauss second and the “Tampa Tornado” Jimmy Waldrop up to third. Last caution would come out on lap nineteen as last week’s feature winner Bryan Bernhardt broke a j-bar and ended his night. When the race resumed Nosbisch, Jr. went on to win his second feature of the year with Jimmy Waldrop, Mavrick Varnadore, Dave Schmauss and Dalton Myers rounding out the top five. Nosbisch, Jr. and Varnadore won their heats earlier on in the evening.

Last event of the night was the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Streets Stocks with Thomas Burnside and Billy Barstow making up the front row for their 15 lap feature event. Green waved and Burnside and Barstow were battling side by side on the first lap with Barstow leading lap one by just a half car length. Barstow would lead for the next few laps as he and Burnside were side by side at the line on lap four. The first caution would come out on lap four as Brett Koch spun. Barstow would lead the field to the green and on lap five they were three wide coming out of turn four as Burnside emerged and took over the lead from Barstow. Final caution came out on lap thirteen as Larry Chumney, II spun in turn two. Burnside would continue on to win his second feature of the season with Eric Moon, Billy Barstow, William Burnside and Buck Woodhouse rounding out the top five.
