Alex Bright Wins On First Visit To East Bay Raceway Park In The Florida Mini Sprints Winternationals

TAMPA, FL…..2/21/14…..Night number two for the King of the 360 Sprints and the Florida Mini Sprints kicked off tonight with a bit of a delay due to Mother Nature. Rain was forecasted for tonight but the skies cleared and after track prep the night was able to move forward with the night’s events.

The night kicked off with the six heat races for the 360 Sprints with Danny Wood of Norman, OK taking the win for heat race number one. Heat race number two went to Etienne Girard from Drummondville, ON. Heat three went to Lou Kennedy from Winnipeg, BC with heats four, five and six going to Parker Price-Miller from Kokomo, IN, Rico Abreu from Rutherford, CA and Greg Wilson from Benton Ridge, OH.

Next up were the four heats for the Mini Sprints and Tyler Senter of Little Rock, AR, Dirk Miller of Sanford, FL, Luke Thomas of Dover, DE and Jim Young of Johnstown, PA all won their preliminary races.

The three B-Mains were run next with the top two advancing to the 25 Lap A-Main. Advancing were Hud Horton, Jac Haudenschild, Chad Kemenah, Christopher Bell, Danny Lasoski and Thomas Kennedy.

Following the B-Mains were the B-Main and the Dash for the Mini Sprints. Winning the B-Main was Robbie Smith of Ocala, FL. The Dash would follow next and would determine the starting order for the A-Main for the 8 drivers. Jim Young finished first with Luke Thomas second. Travis Senter, Tyler Walton, Alex Bright, Trevor Baker, Dirk Miller, and Nicholas Snyder would round out the top eight.

The final event of the night belonged to the Mini Sprints. Young and Thomas would make up the front row. Thomas was looking to make it back-to-back wins after winning on Thursday night. When the green dropped it was Thomas finding himself in the lead for the first nine laps until the first caution would come out as Dave Hall bounced off the backstretch wall and would come to rest. Hall was able to continue on.

The green waved once again and Thomas held the lead until Tyler Walton took over on lap ten. A caution came out on the next lap with four cars tangling in turns one and two. Walton was leading with Thomas, Bright, Senter and Young your top five.

Caution would come out just two laps later with Robbie Hoffman slowing down ending his night. At the half way point it was Walton leading with Bright now up the second position with Thomas falling back the third with Senter and Young to follow.

It was on lap fifteen when Bright drove on the outside of four as Walton seemed to hit the inside burm in the turn upsetting his car allowing Bright to drive past him.

On the final restart Bright led the field to the green with Walton, Senter, Thomas and Young close behind him but was not enough as Alex Bright of Collegeville, PA went on to win his very first feature here at East Bay Raceway Park. Bright had finished fourth in the famed Chilli Bowl back in January in Tulsa, OK. In Victory Lane Bright seemed shocked and happy all at the same time. “When I saw Walton make a mistake I knew I had to go for it on the outside” he stated in Victory Lane. “I have to thank Eddie Moss, Jr. for putting me in this ride for the weekend” he also stated. He thanked all his sponsors for getting him there and Moss Racing for letting him drive their car over the weekend.

Rounding out the top ten were Tyler Walton, Luke Thomas, Travis Senter, Jim Young, Kyle Lick, Dirk Miller, James Morris, Kameron Morral and Megan Allen.

Night number three will continue tomorrow night with the 360 Sprints and the Mini Sprint Association. Grandstands will open at 5:00 pm with the hot laps to begin around 6:00 pm and the ACTION to get underway around 7:00 pm.
