Danny Martin, Jr. Wins Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints, Jack Nosbisch, Jr. Wins Late Models At East Bay Raceway Park

October 19, 2013 – Tampa, FL – Double Features would be held for V8 Warriors along with the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints, Late Models, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks and the Outlaw Fours. Aaron’s Bail Bonds and Alafia Marine sponsored the $1,000 to win for the Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints.

First Feature would belong to the V8 Warriors make-up feature. Starting on the front row was Bill Whitney and Derek Gray. When the green waved it was Gray leading the way until Whitney spun in turn two bringing out the first caution. Gray would lead the way once again until Jeff Weaver took over the lead on lap three. Weaver would then surrender the lead over to Marco Reyes as they battled crossing the line on lap six with Reyes leading by a half a car length. Weaver would end up with a flat and he spun in turn one leaving him with a seventh place finish. Reyes would go on to win with Kevin Cassaday, Tim Stoffel, Ron Smith and Henry Wiley rounding out the top five.

Next up was the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Street Stocks. Winning their heats were Brian Morgan and Justan Rodgers and the two also made up the front row for the feature. When the green waved it was Dennis Wilson, Jr. along with Morgan and Tim Gay all battling for the top spot coming out of turn one. On lap two is was Tim Gay taking over the lead with Morgan and Wilson, Jr. chasing him down. The three would battle throughout the feature with Tim Gay crossing the line first with Brian Morgan, Dennis Wilson, Jr., Mike Wilson and Buck Woodhouse rounding out the top five.

Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprints were next as they had an autograph session before their feature with the fans coming down to get a close look at the Sprints. Winning their heats were Gene Lasker, Sport Allen and Danny Martin, Jr. For the feature it was Frank Beck and Martin, Jr. making up the front row. Lasker, Allen and Martin, Jr. were eligible for Jeff Barfield Clean Sweep of $200 if they won the feature. When the green waved several cars tangled in turn one but getting the worst end of the deal would be Aussie Joe Metcalf as he turned over bringing out the red flag. Joe was okay but the car was unable to continue. So on the restart after one lap being completed it was Danny Martin, Jr. leading the way with Allen and Beck lined up right behind him. Martin, Jr. quickly drove off leaving Allen until caution came out for DJ Peeples as his car jump out of gear. When the green waved once again, Martin, Jr. took off and by lap six was making his way thru lapped cars. Martin, Jr. was able to put his car where ever he needed to opening up his lead over Allen and a hard charging Tyler Godwin. With just a hand full of laps remaining, Martin, Jr. found himself behind the fifth place runner of AJ Maddox. Martin, Jr. would go on to win and pick up the Clean Sweep Award winning a $1,200 Payday. Martin, Jr. thanked his car owner Shaw and jokingly said in Victory Lane that the extra $200 would help fix the car after his last event where he crashed the car. “We gonna get this car ready for the 38th Annual Winternationals” Martin, Jr. said in Victory Lane as well. Rounding out the top five were Sport Allen, Tyler Godwin, Billy Boyd, Jr. and Kerry Gilbert.

Late Models would be next as David Schmauss and Phillip Cobb would win their heats. It was brothers starting on the front row as Steve Miller would be on the pole and his brother Matt right next to him. When the green waved it was Mavrick Varnadore and Steve Miller battling and at the line it was Varnadore by just a nose over Miller. Miller would then get by Varnadore on the next lap and lead until caution came out as Cobb slowed going into turn one and would end his night. Miller then had the two veterans of Jackie Nosbisch, Jr. and David Schmauss right behind him on the start. On lap seven Miller would lead Nosbisch, Jr. to the line by just a half a car length with Nosbisch, Jr. taking over on lap eight. Several more cautions came out, but it was Nosbisch, Jr. in Victory Lane in his brand new 2014 Rocket. “It’s our first race in this new car and seem to go where ever I needed it to go” Jackie said in Victory Lane. Rounding out the top five were Dave Schmauss, Matt Miller, Steve Miller and Jamie Slatton.

Outlaw Fours were next with Billy Howard winning the heat and starting on the front row were Jake Hampton and Nick Hebrank. Jesse James Foster would lead lap one over Hampton. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Yates, Nick Hebrank, Billy Howard and Megan Meyer.
