Rule Clarification

The recent lengthy teardown of East Bay Sprint competitors during the running of the touring Top Gun Series program brought to light a need for clarification. Rules confusion has clouded the spirit of the intent of engine-related rules and this confusion has led to increased misunderstandings.
The East Bay rules, with regard to crankshafts, say they must be stock (cast or steel). Most competitors have determined that aftermarket crankshafts, which had appeared in the rules in years past, were still good, provided they met the requirements of a stock crankshaft.
Former East Bay track champion Tim George was caught in the letter of the rules, but his use of the part was not against the spirit of the rule. East Bay officials have reviewed the circumstances and reversed the ruling that went against George. His points will be re-instated and he will be considered to have finished second in the 25-lap feature race.
East Bay officials will be providing competitors with an addendum to the rule in hopes of clearing up any misunderstandings and allow teams to continue to compete without occurring unnecessary additional costs.
