LIMITED SPRINT RULES

 

The following limitations and restrictions shall govern the LIMITED SPRINT cars.

A.  BODIES

 

1.  Construction material may be fiberglass, aluminum, or plastic.

      Numbers must be 18’ high and legible on both sides of tail tank, both sides of top wing sideboards and on top of wing at an angle.  Any numbers or letters preceding or following number must be 9” and legible. 

 

East Bay Raceway Park officials are not responsible for scoring errors arising from duplicate numbers, similar (or identical) cars or non-legible numbers on cars.

 

 

2.  NO ROOFS of any kind.

 

3.  NO HOLES are permitted in the rear tail section except for the fuel tank filler opening.

 

4.  The fuel tank filler will not be outside the body.

 

5.  The tail section cannot cover any portion of the rear tires.  Tail sections shall be mounted inside of the frame rails.

 

6.  The hood must extend beyond the front of the radiator.

 

7. The front and rear wheels must be fully exposed.

 

8. Nerf bars may NOT EXTEND past the outside edges of the tires, one-inch tolerance.

 

9.  The front bumper may NOT EXTEND more than 12 inches in front of the front tire.

 

10.  The maximum bumper and nerf bar material size allowable is one inch O.D. round tubing.

 

11.  Open wheel cars only are permitted.

 

12.  Wings:  Fixed top & nose wings only.  No driver adjustable wings.  Maximum top wing size of 25 square feet with 30 inch side panels.  Maximum center foil width of 60 inches.  The deepest point allowed in the top surface of the wing will be 2 inches measured from top front of wing to the front edge of 1-inch turn up of the rear edge (or to the rear edge, if there is no turn-up).  Top surface of the wing measuring crosswise must be flat.  No one will be allowed to compete without top wing (unless it is a non-wing special show).  No wicker bills or additives to center foil.  One inch, 90 degree angle turn up allowed at rear of center foil (maximum).  Center foil must be one piece.  Side panels must be 1 piece.  Side panels must be straight (front to back) and 90 degrees of top and bottom of center section of wing.  No kick-outs or bending of sideboards.  No split wings.  Top wings must not extend beyond outside of rear tires.

Maximum front wing size is six (6) square feet total with a maximum width of 36 inches and 12 inch side panels.  Two stationary foils on rudders will be allowed to run the entire length of the underside of the top wing.  Maximum height proportions are one inch at the front and three inches at the rear.

Must have 18” number on top of wing at an angle.

 

No side foils, rudders, or panels are to extend beyond roll cage on any side, no body pieces to extend beyond or underneath front torsion tube except hood.  Sunshields cannot restrict vision.  NO wedges or foils under race car.  No pieces may be added to the frame so as to resemble, imitate, or be specifically designed to deflect, trap, or form a wind break of any nature; except those used to cool/protect the motor and braking system.

 

13.  Floor boards must be horizontal relative to the angle of the body.

 

14.  Motor plate must be vertical relative to the angle of the frame.

 

15.  Sprint car appearing tail covers may be used.

 

B.  CHASSIS

 

1.  The rear roll bar must be made of a minimum 1-3/8 inch O.D. tubing.

 

2.  There must be a minimum 2-inch clearance measured from the top of the roll bar to the top of driver's helmet with the driver seated upright in a natural position in the car.

 

3.  The frame material must be made of a minimum 1-3/8 inch O.D. tubing.  Round or rectangular tubing is acceptable.

 

4.  The minimum allowable wheel base is 84 inches.

 

5.  The maximum allowable wheel base is 100 inches.

 

6.  Maximum width on the front, measured from the outside of the tire to the outside of the tire is 72 inches, 1" tolerance.

 

7.  Maximum width of the rear, as measured from the outside of the rear tires to outside of the rear tires is 78 inches, no tolerance.

 

8.  The engine must be mounted in the center line of the chassis as defined by the cam shaft.  A maximum tolerance of 1" is allowed.

 

9.  The engine must be mounted in an upright vertical position.  No tilting or leaning allowed.

 

10.  The maximum rear-end offset will not be more than 3" as measured from the center line of the quick change to 44" maximum to outside right rear wheel.

 

C.  SUPENSIONS

 

1.  No fiberglass or carbon fiber parts allowed on the front axle.

 

2. Only straight or dropped front axles are permitted.  (King pin types only).

 

3.  No A-Frame or independent front ends permitted.

 

4.  All rear ends to be quick change.

 

5.  Front axles to be a maximum of 54 inches as measured from the canter of the king pin to the center of the king pin.

 

D.  DRIVE TRAINS.

 

1. If stock clutch used, it must have 360 degree 1/4 scatter shield.

 

2.  Type of clutch used in optional, double disk, triple disk or ram couplers are optional.

 

3.  Drive line or transmission optional.

 

4.  The centerline of the quick change will be on the center line of the frame, with a tolerance of 1".

 

5.  Open drive shafts or torque tubes only.

 

6.  Open drive shafts must have 360 degree protection around front yoke and universal joint for safety reasons.

 

7.  All torque tubes to have restraining straps or loops around front of tube for safety reasons.

 

E.   ENGINES

 

NO FUEL INJECTION TO BE ALLOWED

 

1.  Small block American make V-8 cast iron engines only are permitted.

 

2.  The maximum cube inch displacement allowed is 363 for Chevrolet, 365 for Ford, 365 for Mopar.

 

3.  Any stock or aftermarket intakes allowed.  NO porting or polishing of intake inside or out.  Matching of ports within ˝” is allowed.  NO tolerance.

 

5.  Must use only one Holley #4412- style carburetor.  MUST PASS TRACK GAUGES.  No porting or polishing   Must have two butterflies.  No throttle bodies allowed.

Modifications allowed:  a. choke plate may be removed.

                                       b. Jets and power valves may be changed.

                                       c. Billet metering blocks allowed.

                                       d. NO OTHER MODIFICATIONS TO INCREASE

                                            AIR OR FUEL FLOW.

                                       e. Only straight type squirters allowed.

                                                  No spyder or mist type squirters.

                                              f. Screws in butterflies MUST extend a minimum of .060”

                                                 thru bar (thread side).

                                        g.The maximum venturi opening is 1-7/16 inches.

                                              h. NO DEMON OR PREDATOR STYLE CARBURETORS.

 

Modifications to the carburetor or any of it’s components or substitution of other than Holley parts without prior written permission from East Bay Raceway Park officials will cause the vehicle to be declared illegal.

 

8.  Heads must be steel.  Porting polishing or grinding are not permitted.  Matching of the ports within 1/2 inch of the surface is allowed.  Grinding within 1/2-inch where the valve seats are permitted.  No titanium valves.

 

9.  Kind of valve springs are optional.

 

10.  Kind of rocker arms are optional.

 

11.  No aluminum heads.

 

12.  Only the flat tappet camshafts allowed.

 

13.  No roller camshafts or mushroom tappet cams are permitted.

 

14.  No roller lifters or mushroom lifters allowed.

 

15.  Cam timing gears are optional.

 

16.  Re-indexing of crank shaft is not permitted.  Strokers or destrokers are not allowed.

 

17.  Only stock crankshafts allowed (cast or steel).

 

18.  No lightweight billet cranks allowed.

 

19.  Polishing, clearance and balancing of internal engine parts is permitted.    Knife edge creaks are not permitted.

 

20.  No dry sump oil pumps allowed.  (Wet sumps only.)

 

21.  Manual fuel pumps or optional belt driven pumps only.

 

22.  After market heads are limited to the following:

 FORD-SVO / WINDSOR

 MOPAR

DART

WEIAND

      NOTE: FOR THE 2007 SEASON, THE HEADS MAY BE REQUIRED TO

      BE 23 DEGREES (+ OR- 1 DEGREE) FOR ALL MAKES.

 

23.  All engines must P& G legal within 15 minutes of the end of the racing     event as per race track protest rules.

 

24.  Any pistons are legal.

 

25.  Any length STEEL rods are legal.  Any manufacturer.

 

26.  Any alteration or grinding of the manufacturers name or ID on crank is      not permitted.

 

27.  Leaman-type front covers are not permitted.

 

28.  Belt driven, aluminum water pumps or cast iron pumps only.

 

29.  Any aftermarket racing oil pan allowed.

 

30.  Alternators are optional.

 

31.  Any type headers allowed.

 

32.  Mufflers mandatory--track approved.

 

F.    FUEL SYSTEMS.

 

1.  Only plastic racing tanks or fuel cells are permitted.

 

2.  Alcohol or gasoline is permitted, but no mixing.  No fuel additives except            top oil to be added.

 

3.  No use of nitrous oxide allowed.

 

4.  All fuel systems to have a fuel shut-off between fuel tank and fuel pump.

                  G.   WHEELS AND TIRES

 

1.  Steel or aluminum wheels only—16 inch maximum.  No inner liners. Bead locks optional.

 

2.  Front wheels to be a maximum of 8 inches wide.

 

3.  Carbon fiber wheel is O.K.

 

4.  All tires must be approved by East Bay Raceway Park Tech; check with tech for size, width, and diameter.

Approved Tires:  Right rear tire: Hoosier F35 (Med.) SC  or   F55 only.

                             Left rear tire: Hoosier 88, 90 or 92 casing/ 11.0-15LSB D35 or D55.

                             Front tires: Hoosier 26.5 or 27.5/8.0-15 SCL A40, D40 or H40.

 

5.  No tire softeners; no soaking of tires; no preheating of tires; no chemicals inside or outside of tires except oxygen or nitrogen.  If found, tires will be confiscated and driver will receive a minimum $500.00 fine, loss of all points accrued to date and/or possible suspension.  This   could turn into EPC problem if it continues.

 

H.   WEIGHT

1.  The minimum weight of the car and driver at the end of the race must be 1650 lbs. with transmission/1650 lbs. without transmission.

 

2.  The first five finishers and any cars so designated by track officials must go directly to the scales at the end of each race.  Failure to report to the scales as required will result in a disqualification and forfeiture of all points and monies earned for that race date.

 

3.  No allowance for lost parts (during course of race) in determining the weight of the car.

 

4.  No adding of weight to the car after the race has ended.  Any attempt will be an automatic disqualification.

I.   SAFETY

 

1. All drivers to mandatory to wear an S.F.I. approved fire suit, including neck brace, gloves and shoes.

2.  All helmets to have a Snell approval of at least 2000 and a lock-down face  shield.

3.  Arm restraints are MANDATORY; if restraints are released during ANY race, you are automatically disqualified.

4.  No mirrors on cars.

5. Five-point safety harness not older than three years of manufacturers date on harness.  (Belts stretch in accidents and rollovers).

 

THESE RULES HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AND APPROVED.  IF IT'S NOT IN THE RULES IT IS NOT ALLOWED.

 

 

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER

 

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.  NO EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM THE PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended entirely as a guide for the conduct of the sport and in no way guarantee against injury or death to any participant, spectator or official.

 

The race director or Head Tech Inspector shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate  deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  ANO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATIONS OR DEVIATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials and is final and binding.

 

On occasion when situations arise that are not covered by written rules herein, special rulings may be put into effect by the track officials.  Once such rulings are acted upon, they may become an act of policy and will be added to the existing rules of procedures.
