2007 LATE MODEL RULES |
THIS IS A PROTEST DIVISION
ASA Membership is mandatory for all Late Model drivers.
Membership is highly recommended for all crew members.
ELIGIBLE MODELS: BODIES
A. This division is limited to 2001 to 2006 American
manufactured stock car bodies.
B. Floor boards and firewall MUST cover the drives area and be
constructed to provide maximum safety. Firewalls made of MINIMUM
20-gauge sheet metal or .040 aluminum and must separate driver's
compartment from engine compartment and from the fuel cell. All
floorboards must extend a reasonable and safe distance beyond
the driver's seat in the rearward direction.
C. Drivers seat must remain in the same general area as the
general design of the car.
D. Full windshield screens are mandatory. (Maximum 1" x 2"
square).
E. All surfaces must be rounded with no sharp corners, edges, or
protrusions. All corners must be rounded.
F. Any device added to protect the radiator will be considered a
bumper and therefore must conform to all rules concerning
bumpers.
G. All cars must have a full, complete and intact rear deck and
hood.
H. No item or device of any kind may protrude more than 4 inches
vertically through the hood. Hood scoops are permitted but must
not exceed a maximum of 4 inches in height or 18 inches in
width.
I. Neatly painted (or vinyl decals) numbers at least eighteen
inches (18") high are required on each side of the car and the
roof. 4" number on windshield screen and rear of fuel cell.
J. NO fins or raised lips of any kind permitted anywhere along
the entire length of the car. Body line MUST be a smooth, even
line from front to rear.
K. NO "slope noses" or "wedge" bodies permitted. Nose pieces
must be stock type nosepieces as built by FIVE STAR STOCK CAR
BODIES or PERFORMANCE BODIES. Nosepieces must be made of a
molded plastic type material and must be mounted so as not to
alter original shape.
L. Stock nosepiece can extend a MAXIMUM of 46" from center of
front hub to farthest point extending forward.
M. Front fender flares MUST be made of plastic and CANNOT extend
beyond front tire track width with wheels pointed straight.
Front fender flairs MUST have collapsible support (NO STEEL
SUPPORTS.)
N. NO "belly pans" or any type of enclosure on bottom of car is
permitted. Skid plate to protect oil pan is permitted.
O. If interior is flat through the car; it MUST maintain a
twelve inch (12") clearance from roll cage for easy exiting from
either side of the car.
II. BUMPERS
A. The horizontal centerline of the bumper must be a minimum or
18 inches and a maximum of 20 inches from the ground.
B. All cars with enclosed front ends and bumpers are required to
have a hook or chain loop type device, to allow hooking by a
tractor or a wrecker, capable of supporting the weight of the
car when lifted.
This procedure MUST be capable of being carried out without
raising the hood.
Any car that does not conform to this rule and thereby does not
provide an adequate means of lifting and towing when the car is
involved in a an accident will be removed from the racing
surface by the best means available. East Bay Raceway Park and
its management and officials WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE OR
RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THIS REMOVAL PROCESS.
Any car is subject to inspection of this device at any time and
may be disqualified.
C. If rear bumper is stubbed, it may only extend a maximum of
eight inches (8") beyond the frame. Any stubbed rear bumpers
that extend eight inches (8") or more beyond the frame MUST be
rounded and directed towards the front of the car eight inches
(8").
III. FRAMES
A. NO aluminum frames or front clips permitted in construction
of car.
B. MINIMUM 104" wheel base.
C. RECTANGUALR OR SQUARE TUBING: The wheel base of all cars MUST
be constructed of two inch (2") by two inch (2") minimum
rectangular or square tubing with a minimum of eight inch (8")
circumference and a minimum of eighty-three thousandths inch
(.083") wall thickness.
D. ROUND TUBE FRAME: The wheel base of all cars MUST be
constructed of a minimum of one and one-half inch (1-1/2") round
tubing and must have a wall thickness of eighty-three
thousandths inch (.083") minimum.
D. Cars MUST have a suitable steel roll cage in driver's
compartment including head rest.
E. Side roll bars are MANDATORY and MUST extend into the door
panels.
F. A MINIMUM of three (3) bars MUST be used on the left side of
the car. Each bar MUST be a MINIMUM of one and one-half inch
(1-1/2") in diameter with a MINIMUM thickness of ninety-five
thousandths inch (.095).
G. Roll cage MUST be welded to the frame.
H. Roll cage MUST be above the driver's helmet.
I. No "fin-shaped" or "foil-shaped" add-ons.
IV. ENGINES
A. Engines MUST BE based on an American factory design and MUST
be naturally aspirated (carbureted). STEEL BLOCK ONLY!!!
B. Maximum cubic inch in 362 with a 2350 pound minimum with
driver after completion of event. NO stroking or de-stroking.
3.480 or 3.500 crankshafts only.
Crate Motor GM 604 or 602 must weigh a minimum 2250 pounds. All
Crate Motors are subject to same tear down rules as "Open Style"
motors. Cars running the GM 604 or 602 motor
will be allowed to run a 12" spoiler and 14" maximum wheel
width. All crate motors must have all factory installed seal
bolts in place and untampered to get weight break, spoiler or
wheels.
C. 23 degree heads plus or minus one (1) degree valve angle.
D. Maximum overbore of .060 over.
E. The engine is permitted to set back a maximum of six inches
(6") from center of ball joint to front of most forward spark
plus hole.
F. Carburetor is limited to one(1) Holley 4150 series four (4)
barrel, air horn optional. Must maintain 4150 base gasket hole
pattern. Gas or alcohol only. No other restrictions or rules on
carburetors.
G. NO fuel injection devices, electric fuel pumps, turbo
chargers or blowers permitted.
H. Magnetos are permitted. MUST have operating self starter.
I. NO titanium or exotic material crankshafts or connecting rods
permitted. Titanium valves and valve retainers are allowed.
J. All engines limited to one (1) spark plug and two (2) valves
per cylinder.
K. Ford and Chrysler refer to East Bay Raceway Park tech
officials for determination of rules.
V. FUEL SYSTEMS
A. An approved fuel cell, thirty-two (32) gallon maximum. Must
be securely mounted in trunk area of the car inside a twenty
(20) gauge metal box supported by at least two (2) one eighth
inch (1/8") by two inch (2") steel straps.
B. An aluminum firewall MUST be installed between fuel cell and
driver's compartments.
C. NO pressurized fuel systems permitted.
D. Gas or alcohol are the only fuels permitted. Nitrous gases or
other nitrate additives are not permitted. No performance
enhancing additives in fuel. If found, $500 fine and loss of all
points accrued.
VII. TRANSMISSIONS, CLUTCH AND REAR END
A. Drive train MUST have transmission mounted on the rear of the
engine block and lead to one (1) driveshaft. No direct drive or
in-out boxes permitted.
B. Ay transmission with working toward and reverse gears is
permitted.
C. Manual transmission MUST be equipped with an operational
clutch.
D. NO QUICK-CHANGE TRANSMISSIONS.
E. Automatic transmissions are permitted.
F. Quick-change rear ends are MANDATORY. NO "live-axle" rear
ends allowed. NO independent rear suspensions allowed.
G. Springs and shocks optional on front and rear of car.
Fifth-coil setups allowed.
H. All rear ends using a cable to lock-in the rear end MUST have
the cable counted on the outside of the driver's area and not in
reach of the driver.
I. All front ends MUST be of the "A-frame" type.
J. If a stock-type clutch and pressure plate are used, a 360
degree 1/4-inch steel bell housing or shield is mandatory.
K. A maximum of two-inch (2") tolerance will be allowed on
engine offset.
L. NO CARBON FIBER OR ALUMINUM DRIVE SHAFTS ALLOWED. All drive
shafts must be painted white.
VIII. TIRES
A. Refer to EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK RACING TIRES-813/671-4698
B. Hardness of tires may be checked before start of race.
C. NO TIRE SOFTNERS OF ANY TYPE. NO SOAKING OF TIRES. NO
ELECTRICAL PRE-HEATING OF TIRES.
NO CHEMICALS ANY TYPE INSIDE TIRE EXCEPT OXYGEN OR NITROGEN. If
found, minimum fine of $500, loss of all points accrued to that
date and/or possible suspension. This could turn into an
environmentally sensitive issue if it continues.
D. NO grinding or removal of original factory markings.
IX. WHEELS
A. Steel, aluminum, carbon fibre or combination aluminum carbon
fibre allowed.
B. Wheels MUST be mounted with lug nuts. NO "KNOCK-OFF" (SINGLE
NUT) mounting devices permitted.
C. MAXIMUM wheel width permitted is twelve inches (12"). Grace
period-two (2) weeks. Can run 14" wheels with track approved
tires on first and second visit to East Bay Raceway Park only.
On third visit, you will be required to have 12" wheels.
D. Maximum width outside of front tires permitted is
eighty-eight inches (88").
E. Maximum width outside of rear tires permitted is eighty six
(86").
X. WEIGHT LIMIT
A. All cars using "Open Style" engines MUST weigh a minimum of
twenty-three hundred fifty (2350) pounds with driver in the car
after the race.
All cars using "Crate Motor" GM 604 or 602 MUST weigh a minimum
of twenty-two hundred fifty (2250) pounds.
B. The EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK scales will be th official weighing
device for all cars. Competitors, owners, pit crew and team
members MUST abide by the tech directors decision(s).
C. The first five finishers and any car designated by the track
officials MUST report directly to the scales upon completion of
their event. Failure to report directly to the scales as
required may subject the car and driver to penalties as defined
herein, including, but not limited to, disqualification, loss of
points and/or monies earned in that event.
D. Any attempt to add weight in any manner to car following race
and prior to the car being weighed will result in the immediate
disqualification of that car and driver, which will result in
loss of points and monies for that event and /or other
penalties, if necessary.
E. P& G of top three (3) finishers and anyone else as track tech
sees fit. All three (3) cars must remain in tech shed until
released by tech inspectors.
F. Driver and two (2) crew members only allowed in tech area.
XL MUFFLERS
A. Schoenfeld #112535 MUFFLERS ARE MANDATOR ON ALL CARS!!! All
mufflers MUST remain on vehicle and be in working condition
throughout the race. Grace period for new competitors is two
weeks.
B. Maximum 98 decibel reading measured at trackside.
C. TURN DOWNS ARE NOT MANDATORY.
XII. SAFETY
A. Maximum of one (1) battery per car. No batteries permitted to
be located in the driver's compartment.
B. All cars MUST have an approved fire extinguisher securely
mounted within reach of the driver.
C. Window nets are mandatory.
D. Racing seats and racing seat belts with shoulder harnesses
are required and must securely fasten to the car frame. Date of
manufacture MUST be on belts and belt cannot be older than three
(3) year old.
E. An approved racing helmet with a current Snell 2000 rating
inside.
F. Fire-resistant driving uniforms, shoes, neck collar, and
gloves are mandatory. Neck brace not required if using Hutchens
or HANS devices.
G. Driveshafts must be painted white.
H. Added weight or ballast must be painted white and have car
number on it. Added weight or ballast must be securely fastened.
XIII. MISCELLANEOUS
A. NO "in-cockpit driver controlled" or electronic "remote
controlled" devices of any type permitted. Brake adjustment
devices will be allowed.
B. ALL TRACTION CONTROL DEVICES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING
ANY RACE, TEST OR PRACTICE AT EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK. Any
competitor found with any kind of traction control device will
lose the complete device permanently to EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK
and WILL be fined heavily and/or suspended.
C. All cars MUST be in good operational condition and be
presentable in appearance, subject to the judgment of EAST BAY
RACEWAY PARK officials. Cars will not be allowed to compete with
shoe polish, graffiti or temporary numbers for more than one (1)
race event.
D. NO "wings" or "tunnels" for aerodynamics advantages of any
kind of any kind of permitted under the car.
E. NO compute controlled devices of any kind permitted.
F. NO REARVIEW MIRRORS of any kind permitted.
G. NO two (2) way radios allowed.
H. ”TOW-HOOKS" are mandatory.
I. EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK officials reserve the right to alter,
add to and/or change the rules and procedures at any time as
they see fit. All officials are final and binding.
XIV. ROOF

RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER
The rules and /or regulations set forth herein are designed to
provide for the
orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum
acceptable
requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the
condition of all
events, and by participating in these events, all participants
are deemed to have
complied with these rules. No expressed or implied warranty of
safety
shall result from the publication of or compliance with these
rules and/or
regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the
sport and in
no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant,
spectator, or
official.
The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and
appropriate
deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any
further
restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum
acceptable
requirements. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall
results
from such alterations of specifications. Any interpretation or
deviation of
these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their
discretion is final.
On occasion when situations arise that are not covered by
written rules,
special rulings may be put into effect by the track officials.
Once such
rulings are acted upon, they may become an act of policy and
will be added to
the existing rules of procedures.
